Prof. Gunho Sohn has been awarded funding from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) under the 2026-27 Highway Infrastructure Innovation Funding Program (HIIFP) for a new research project, “Winter Materials Management Leveraging Innovative Technologies.”
The one-year project, conducted under the Mobility Innovation Centre (MOVE) with Prof. Sohn as Principal Researcher, will explore how innovative sensing and AI technologies can improve the management of winter road materials – supporting safer and more efficient highway operations in Ontario’s winter conditions. MTO has expressed interest in extending the collaboration beyond the first year.
The project continues the lab’s long-standing partnership with MTO, which includes the Intelligent Systems for Sustainable Urban Mobility (ISSUM) program supported by the Ontario Research Fund – Research Excellence.
