Congratulations to Dr. Zahra Arjmandi on Her Faculty Appointment at Lassonde

Warmest congratulations to Dr. Zahra Arjmandi, who has been appointed Sessional Assistant Professor in Mechatronics Engineering at York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Arjmandi completed her Ph.D. at AUSMLab under the supervision of Prof. Gunho Sohn, where her research on ultra-wideband-aided UAV positioning produced benchmark datasets and deep learning methods for pose-graph optimization. She continued with the lab as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2024-2026), developing quality-aware UAV systems for infrastructure inspection in collaboration with Prof. Chul Min Yeum at the University of Waterloo.

She joins the teaching team of Lassonde’s newly launched Mechatronics Engineering program – a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree introduced in October 2025 that integrates computer science with mechanical, electrical, software, space, and computer engineering. With its strong AI focus, mandatory work-integrated learning, and first-year block model, the program prepares students to design AI-enabled technologies that work seamlessly with people.

Dr. Arjmandi’s journey from Ph.D. student to postdoctoral researcher to faculty member is a wonderful example of the research training mission at the heart of our lab. We are proud of her achievements and excited to see her shape the next generation of mechatronics engineers. Congratulations, Zahra!
