Prof. Gunho Sohn has been appointed Director of the Mobility Innovation Centre (MOVE) at York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering. Prof. Sohn founded MOVE and previously served as its inaugural director, and now returns to lead the centre. The appointment follows the completion of his term as Chair of the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering (ESSE), a role he held from 2023 to June 30, 2026.
MOVE is York University’s hub for mobility research and innovation, bringing together researchers across artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, intelligent transportation, geomatics, sustainable infrastructure, smart sensing, and next-generation mobility technologies. The centre develops solutions to mobility-related challenges with a focus on enhancing safety, comfort, and accessibility, while ensuring mobility technologies are responsibly and efficiently integrated into society. Through its living labs, industry partnerships, and training programs – including the NSERC CREATE SMART program led by Prof. Sohn – MOVE prepares the next generation of researchers and innovators shaping the future of transportation.
